MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Palette Volume 2 – Artistic – Colors You Crave – Swatches, Review and Photos On A Woman of Color

img_4907-copy Say hello to color with the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Palette Volume 2 – Artistic – Colors You Crave Palette.

img_4901-copy

Normally, this palette retails for $42.00 for 0.54 oz. of product but it is currently on a promotion at Sephora for $25. Clearly, with my recent obsession with eyeshadow products and our need to save some money, I got it to review.

img_4911-copyimg_4935-copy

Here are a few photos taken with flash and without flash:img_4914-copy img_4923-copyimg_4921-copyimg_4926-copyimg_4932-copy

Overall, I am very happy with the palette from the initial swatches. The only column that I wasn't too thrilled with was the first one:

  • The pearly pink shade (I872) swatched well but I had to use about 3 coats to get it to build up to what you see above on my skin tone.
  • The electric magenta shade (ME910) left me feeling underwhelmed by how difficult it was to build up if I wanted to use this as an eyeshadow. This is marketed and designed to be a blush so if you lightly pack it on then you will be fine. Otherwise, be prepared to put in a bit of work. I really like the blue undertones and iridescent violet sheen to it so I'll make it work without complaining. This also left a light pink stain on my arm when I removed it with one makeup wipe as the other shades
  • The purple shade (S924) is a matte blush. There isn't too much that I can say on this shade that will make you like it. The color and undertones are pretty but the texture is pretty dry and hard to blend.

I haven't had the chance to play with it on my brushes and eyes yet so I will update you on social and on here once I do. Again, overall, I love this palette and it is well worth the price - especially if you're getting for yourself or as a gift. If I could, I would replace the two blushes with a similar shade to the ME-700 and the ME-302.

Availability: It is currently available at Sephora for $25.

Update 12/5/16: I played with it for an eye look twice. Here's a photo of me wearing the emerald green and gold shades from the palette. I had to use a bit of Unseen from Melt Cosmetics in my crease for a neutral transition and I mixed that with a bit of the purple blush to warm it up and add some color.

Additional products used:

  • Make Up For Ever Liner No M-16 (white) No I-34 (green) and No M-10 (matte black)
  • Nars Cosmetics concealer in Amande and Caramel
  • Urban Decay Cosmetics Shadow Primer Potion (anti-aging)
  • Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (waterproof)

Exclusie: An Interview with the Ladies From the Intertwine Collection

In the midst of the glamour of all of the beauty and makeup, I always tell myself - your look is never going to be complete until you have your own sense of style that shines through your outfit. For example... image3image1

Her makeup is beyond perfection! But the outfit...her sense of style is what's really pulling everything together. So I wanted to help you channel your inner beauty and tie in your style by introducing you to the Intertwine Collection. The Intertwine Collection is an exclusive online boutique, owned and operated, by twin sisters Shanda and Shawniece that provides stunning statement pieces, accessories and garments for all women of all shapes and all sizes. We were able to catch up with the boutique owners and learn more about their brand, the vision behind their work and get some style and business tips.

Candy Coated Closets: First, thank you ladies for making the time to chat with me and my readers about Intertwine Collection! How did you ladies come up with the idea for Intertwine Collection? What does the name mean?

Intertwine Collection: Intertwine Collection was created by the thought of the birthing process of twin fetus interlocking to become to separate eggs, which the basis behind our company name, Intertwine. Intertwine is defined as interlocking or twine together.

Candy Coated Closets:  How did you get your start?

Intertwine Collection: We started off reconstructing women vintage clothing. Then we started styling for a Disney show called ‘Ant Farm’. We later decided to venture off and start Intertwine Collection.”

Candy Coated Closets:  What makes your boutique stand out from the others?

Intertwine Collection: What sets us apart from other boutique is we are not only giving day-to-day garments but also heavy beading, tassels, and lace which allow wow-factor of surprise to customers to know we put time into a quality pieces. The Intertwine collection is a mix of various dresses, jumpsuits, shirts, pants, jeans, jackets and more.

Candy Coated Closets:  Where do you get your inspiration from?

Intertwine Collection: We are inspired by different variation of styles and designs. Bold colors and patterns is what allows us to utilize the next trend.

Candy Coated Closets: If you both had to pick one item from your boutique that represents your overall style, what would it be?

Intertwine Collection: "If I could pick one item, I would have to choose the ‘Glamour Embellish Dress’ the heavy beading is everything” stated Shawniece. Shanda said “I would have to say my favorite item currently Forbidden Vine Playsuit. It’s a show-stopper garment.

Candy Coated Closets: With your success on social media and the introduction of the Karla Collection (a collection for women of all body types) what challenges do you see your boutique tackling in the future? What’s next?

Intertwine Collection: Intertwine Collection’s next move would be branding and expanding plus sizes for woman and also adding footwear.

Candy Coated Closets: What advice would you give other Black Owned Entrepreneurs that are looking to reach your level of success?

Intertwine Collection: Our best advice we can offer someone moving in the fashion industry would be to do your research, find your nitch, engage with audience, stay creative, and do your part in putting in the foot work. Without foot work there is no way that your company can reach a successful level. And this is to show you that success does not come over night. Work smart so it could save you a lot of headaches.

One Glitter Shoe That Will Get You Through All of Your Holiday Parties

There is just something about the holidays that scream glitter to me. I always find someway to incorporate it into my holidays looks - whether it be on my lips, eyes, clothes or my feet - I must always sparkle during the holidays. However, if you're more on the conservative side and can't wear glitter on your eyes/lips or you're just looking for a fun shoe to wear this holiday season, take a look at this pump from Shoedazzle.

Available in 3 shades, Raziel is the perfect pump to take your party wardrobe to the next level. I have this in gold and I absolutely fell in love with the ombre glitter.  sd-razielsd-raziel-2

I will warn you...this shoe is not for the high heel faint of heart. It runs true to size and has an outside heel height of 4.5 inches. There is no platform in this shoe so don't expect it to feel comfortable right off of the bat - you're going to have add some inserts and break it in before going outside with it. I recommend that you plan on wearing this on occasions where you're not standing or walking much - not more than 3 hours neither. It is imported and made of faux-leather and glitter.

Misha Collection SS17 Runway Show NYFW Recap

There's a sense of delight when you give into opulence and the Misha Collection SS17 Runway Show was a testament to that. The luxury Australian fashion label, led by Creative Director and designer Michelle Aznavorian, made its New York Fashion Week debut with its opening and closing walk done by the superstar Jourdan Dunn.

The Misha Collection SS17 oozes opulence, extravagant glamour, luxury and mystery. The collection was inspired by fashion icons of Studio 54 gone by evoking feelings of elegance and supplication. With references to classic vintage shapes from the seventies and eighties, the seductive mood is enhanced by breathtaking new textures, custom lace, ostrich feather, silk Devoré and pony leather are intertwined with a monochromatic colour palette splashed with leopard print and daring red.

Click on the photos to see a bigger slideshow.

I loved how the designer was able to incorporate hints of elegance and sophistication into the spirit of Studio 54. Now for the makeup - one of our favorite beauty brands - Stila Cosmetics was responsible for creating the luxe and lust beauty look for the runway. Check out these photos of Sarah Lucero of Stila working her magic on Jourdan Dunn.

You can see all the looks from their NYFW debut on their new Runway page here and you can watch SS17 runway show from start to finish below.

Shoedazzle Kamaria Pump

I love a good strap up sandal for summer so I'm always on the look out for unique ones. I spotted the Kamaria pump on Shoedazzle the other day and I was intrigued by her and the pattern on it! IMG_8458

An embroidered pattern combined with a laced-up construction make Kamaria the ultimate look-at-me heel. I was drawn into this pump because it is subtle shoe that is sexy without screaming "hey look at me now". You can pair this cutoff shorts, skinny jeans or a wide pants leg (like I did).

First, let's take a closer look at the coveted Androgyny:

CandyCoatedCloset Androgyny Product CandyCoatedCloset Wand This is the best picture that I could get to capture the true color of Androgyny on my lips. The color is beautiful! It is an amazing mauve shade that's not too pink or too nude for women of color. It wears incredible well and is very soft on the lips. Now when I say it took me a while to capture the true color on my lips I say that because it's a very natural color on me and it's hard to pick up the mauve undertones in the picture.CandyCoatedCloset Androgyny 2CandyCoatedCloset Androgyny

Next, let's look at Hoe Hoe Hoe:

Candy Coated Closets Hoe Hoe Hoe BottleCandy Coated Closets Hoe Hoe Hoe WandThis liquid lipstick is a deep red with hints of metallic red and purple in it. In the pic on the bottom left, I tried to leave the focus from being straight on my lips and a different angle of lighting so you can get a better look at the sparkle from this lipstick. It's going to be great for holidays!

Next is Doll Parts. This is a soft cool toned pink, more like a baby pink on my skin tone. I tried to shift the focus and lighting so you can see how it performs in the images to show the true color.

The Beautiful Kiss of Death: Happy Halloween

Now I know that I made the title of this piece overly dramatic but come on...it's Halloween! The thing that I love about Halloween is that the make up gods come out to play! This is truly one of the few times of the year that you can stun everyone with your make up artistry skills and hey, if you're like me and just want to have fun, it's the perfect time to try out some new looks without looking crazy. So I decided to do some fun lip art! I tried my best to capture it for you guys by my lighting wanted to suck!

[embed]https://youtu.be/s91J30bXhBs[/embed]

To do this look, I used MakeupForever's black lipstick rouge artist intense in 50 and Violet Voss's glitter in Paige for the purple topcoat.

What fun make up looks did you guys try for Halloween?xoxo1

Say Hello to A Little Beauty - Becca Cosmetics Champagne Glow Palette

She's finally here! I have been stalking the Sephora website like a maniac waiting for the Becca Cosmetics Champagne Glow Palette to launch. I know they gave us a specific day and time (Tuesday, October 27 at 12:00pm EST) but you and I both know how friendly I've gotten with the refresh button - umm a new F5 button please. So I was at work Tuesday morning, with my eyes glued to my web browser because I wasn't going to miss this launch. Jaclyn Hill snapped (snapchat) a few days earlier that Becca told her that they only made close to 80,000 units of this palette and I freaked! 80,000 units is not a lot of product - especially during holiday season and hello, have you heard of the JacAttack? Yeah, so I was on it. And it's a good thing that I was because it launched early! I checked out around11:37 with my two new beauties on the way.

Let's take a look shall we...

Candy Coated Closets 2

Candy Coated Closets 1

Candy Coated Closets 3 Can't you hear Stevie Wonder singing Isn't She Lovely right now?

This is a limited edition palette with 3 shimmering Skin Perfector pressed shades (0.084 oz each) in Pearl, Blushed Copper, and Champagne Pop x Jaclyn Hill. It's sold exclusively at Sephora and costs $34.00.

Pearl is a new beautiful luminizer in pale linen white. At first, I was a little weary of how this shade would perform on women of color but I saw a few Youtubers swatch the product and they sealed the deal for me. Champagne Pop which I've tried in the full size version is a soft white gold with pinky peach undertones and Blushed Copper is a beautiful warm copper luminizer that is infused with rose gold tones.

I will have more blog posts and features of me wearing the luminizers coming up but make sure you pick this up (at least one) before it sells out! Don't say that I didn't warn you.

Yesterday, I quickly reposted this photo taken by @rachelaschenbrandpsw, fashion editor at @peoplestylewatchmag, of the #StyleWatching preview of JustFab's spring launch.

Here's To a Happy New Year - 2015!

Normally, I try to avoid doing this when a new year rolls around but I figured this year would be the one and only exception.

For the past few years, I've been going through this transition with myself physically, emotionally, spiritually, financially (have I used every -ly word that I can to describe this change?). What I'm trying to say is that it took me a long time to find myself and basically what really made me happy as a person. Just me. Not anybody else. Not my boyfriend, not my parents, not my family, not my friends, not my boss. Just me.

While I'm sure I haven't fully figured that out 100% yet and I'm still trying to find a balance for myself in the real world, I am excited about the progress that I've made so far and everything that I have planned for myself, my career and for you all!

So with that said, here's looking at 2015!

Complete The Look! Splurge vs Save!

Happy Monday Loves!

As I spend time winding down and preparing for the end of 2014, I can't help but think about some of the things that I want to leave in 2014 and all of the joy that I want to bring with me into the New Year.

For one, I know I'm going to start economizing my wardrobe. Now hear me out. All too often we, yes, we fashionistas, get too caught up in name brands and labels that we end up breaking our budget on clothes, makeup and accessories. Don't get me wrong, I am a sucker for all things Christian Louboutin and every once in a while a girl has got to spoil herself but where do we learn to draw the line.

Sometimes I wonder why we get so caught up in labels? Is it the luxury of the item? Does spending $2,000 on a clutch really make an outfit look better than it does with a $40 clutch?

So because of this I'm coming to you guys and I want to know how would you complete this look. Would you splurge or would you save?

(Splurge) On the right side we have a pair of Jimmy Choo Anouk Leather Pumps, a Jimmy Choo Ava Leather and Snakeskin clutch and Jimmy Choo bangels. In order to complete this classic pencil skirt look with these 3 accessories, you would have to spend up to $2,000.

vs.

(Save) On the left we have a pair of Steven by Steve Madden Newbee Purple Pumps, a Steve Madden Zaharra Clutch and a Steve Madden two tone bangle set. In order to complete this classic pencil skirt look with these 3 accessories, you would have to spend up to $200.

The same outfit. Two different price points. How would you complete the look?

Let me know below!

Deck The Halls in GX by Gwen Stefani!

There are very few things that a shoe obsessed girl like myself really wants to see under the tree come next week. I can only dream that good ol' Saint Nick will leave me 30 pairs of new shoes wrapped in a majestic red bow. Hey, a girl can dream right?

While I am off in la-la-land, I still have to plan what I'm going to wear for the rest of the holiday sawrey's coming up.

I ran across this pair of pumps called Ryoko and the Kurume clutch both from the GX by Gwen Stefani line exclusively at Shoedazzle.

IMG_7471

The shoes are to die for. I really did not think that I would love them as much as I do but they are perfect to #DeckTheHalls in for a holiday party. I'll post outfit of the day pictures of me wearing these in a few days.

I'm still debating on the clutch though. I do love the different textures and the color-blocking which really makes it stand out. However, it is very slim and I have no idea what I'm going to fit in there.

What are you thinking about wearing to #DeckTheHalls?

ShoeDazzle Winter Preview Sneak Peek

So last week, in the midst of the usual insanity, I had a Shoedazzle Winter Preview Video Conference aka a sneak peek at the new collection that is being released in a few weeks. You know it's one of those Super-Santa-Silent-Sunset-Secret (shout out to Grey's Anatomy) launch previews that I'm not allowed to discuss but O-M-G! I had to come and let you guys know to at least save your coins and any extra holiday gift money that you get because there are so many....just...so...many!

I think I've picked out 3 new pairs that must come home with me come January 1st, however, there is this one pump...in all her of deliciousness...that I will probably end up staying up all night until 3am PST just to ensure that I get her in all of the colors available.

It's very rare for me to feel as anxious and giddy over a pair of shoes. I mean I love all of my shoes and each pair has a special story behind them but you know when there is a pair that just touches your soul? I haven't felt a moment like this since I found my denim boot Zigi's at DSW back in 2011/2012. So for me to feel like this just from seeing this "secret pump" in pictures and a video is like holy grail for me.

I wish that I could release the pics but trust me when I say save your money! Cut someone off of that holiday shopping list. I mean you only see them twice a year so do they really need a gift?

Be prepared girls!

I'm already planning outfits around it! Check out the details below...the only thing missing are those shoes!

Holiday Chic - From Work to Glam

I seriously cannot believe that the end of the year is approaching so quickly. I'm already trying to prepare myself to start writing 2015 instead of 2014 since it takes about 2 weeks for that to transition over in my brain. #dontjudgeme

Since it's the end of the year, I know we're all starting to get ready for the end-of-the-year-holiday parties. So here's a little bit of inspiration for your next corporate holiday party.

I put this together because I hate getting ready for work and then having to carry 20,000 additional things with me so that I can change into something that is "party appropriate" to wear after I leave the office.

This type of monochromatic look can easily go from your 9 to 5 scene straight to your after work destination with an easy transition!
